The Clearview Legacy Foundation for Education, Preservation, and Turfgrass Research is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable foundation established in 2001 to preserve the Clearview legacy and facilities for future generations.
EDUCATION
Our mission of education uses golf as a tool to reach youngsters, minorities, seniors, troubled individuals, women military veterans, and those with mental and physical challenges. Some of our programs include teaching golf to children in the foster care system through Pathway Caring for Children. Our SarahCare program uses golf as a tool to stimulate the mind in individuals with differing levels of Alzheimer's and dementia. In 2011, Clearview HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) was established as a year-round, cost free therapeutic and recreational golf program for women military veterans. Our girls golf programs and workshops give young ladies an opportunity to not only learn and excel in the game of golf, but learn the many opportunities available to them throughout the golf industry. Several of our young women have gone on to play at the collegiate level on full-ride scholarships. Our work is also currently extending to our local school system in East Canton, Ohio with the upcoming East Canton Community Junior Golf League.
PRESERVATION
As we move from our first 75 years into the next 75 and beyond, our preservation efforts center around adding an education and archival facility to both teach the game of golf as well as its history. It is our mission to not only preserve the rich history that make us "America's Course", but to preserve the precious history of organizations like the United Golfers Association (UGA), the only organization that offered African Americans an opportunity to compete in golf starting in the 1920's and continuing through times of heightened racial discrimination.
TURFGRASS RESEARCH
When it comes to turf grass research, Clearview has always had to be innovative when it comes to keeping the grass growing in the summer months without an automatic irrigation system. Our superintendent Larry Powell has managed to keep the grass greener longer with the use of slow release fertilizers and timing weather for rain moisture. His turfgrass research in testing different grasses that are more resilient in hot weather has helped in a non irrigation situation. One of the top priorities of the foundation is to install an automatic irrigation system to sustain the conditions of our fairways.
We encourage you to be part of the legacy Bill Powell established as a beacon of social justice and economic empowerment.
